Special thanks are in order to the Hammond Bay Anglers, Micheal Veine and Julie Shafto as well as a number of other charter operators and residents for the information they have provided to the Chamber concerning recreational fishing in the Rogers City Area this season.
Last year, many discouraging comments were made and quite a few articles were written concerning the quality of fishing in our area. So far the action on the lake at start of this season is contradicting the negative opinions of last year with reports ranging from very good to "awesome". The salmon, while smaller than in years past are being described as "plump" and well-fed - something that last season was a concern. Good luck with Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Atlantic and Chinook Salmon, Steelhead as well as some Walleye has been reported.
Recreational fishing is an important part of Rogers City's economy and it is vitally important that we work to get the word out about the opportunities available to the sportsman and women not only in our local area but downstate and out-of-state as well.
Thanks to the experience and knowledge of those mentioned above, a better
assessment of the fishing activity has been made and from comments received here at the Chamber, many feel that this is going to be an excellent season for those choosing to make their way up to Rogers City. Our website, www.rogerscitychamber.com has these reports posted for all those who visit to read. We will continue to update the information as we receive it throughout the season.

We'd also like to encourage those of you who are in the "not-yet-a-member" category, to take a moment and consider what your support of the Chamber can do - not only for your business, but for the community as a whole.
The Chamber would like to send a special thank you to former Executive
Director Alan Stiller, for his support and dedication to the Chamber and
its members.
Alan has
received a position as a pilot for Great Lakes Air, Inc. based out of
Saint Ignace, Michigan. He will be flying passenger and freight charters
from Saint Ignace to Mackinac Island and the surrounding areas. He will
also pilot flights to meet commercial flights arriving in Pellston,

He is an
experienced pilot with many, many hours of flight time. Prior to his
tenure with the Chamber, Alan flew charters down state and commuted back
to Rogers City whenever possible. We want to wish Alan the best in his
new position and God’s Speed.
2006 Fishing Report -"Awesome"
In each issue of the Wave, we
feature a brief article by members of our Board of Directors.
This issue features an article by Honorary Lifetime Member Mr. Harry
Whiteley
Looking
back on the history of the Chamber of Commerce it’s not much different
today than it was yesteryear. It’s been a struggle to survive. And as
most everyone knows it’s due to lack of funding.
With
good directors and loyal volunteer board members we have managed to be a
vibrant force in the community in spite of our financial problems.
What financial problems one might ask? It’s this, we get an average
$150.00 a year from various businesses in town and something a bit more
substantial from the few industries we have. This is not enough to pay
our employees more than an average wage, and naturally it’s only human
that they are looking for something better.
Many of our members are struggling
to stay in business and $150.00 is all they feel they can afford. Other
businesses that are prospering frequently up the ante, which helps the
bottom line. Unfortunately, only a few are willing to do this.
So until we can get industry and thriving businesses to provide
substantial seed money to go along with the $150.00 memberships, we will
have to do the best we can.
A few months back, I wrote that
the Chamber was on a roll accomplishing many good things. And we still
are.
The recent loss of our executive director is another bump in the road but as
long as we have a willing supply of volunteers to keep the ship of state
afloat we need not worry.
We’ve had problems before and
we’ll have them again. To one and all, we say, “Keep the faith.”
Like a town’s local newspaper, we are the heart and soul of the
community and we’ll be doing good things for the community, long after
the writer is gone.
A Sincere Thank You"
Special thanks to Jackie Fairbanks
and Bev Helmer of Rogers City for
the use of their photographs in this
edition of the Wave.
